Kevin H. Cohen

Kevin has extensive experience representing individual and corporate clients in all aspects of estate planning and administration. His experience ranges from small to multi-million dollar estates in both national and international venues.

He routinely drafts complex estate plans and all documents relating to the administration of estates including the preparation of federal and state gift and estate tax returns, and fiduciary income tax returns. His practice also includes defending such returns on audit.

Kevin is proficient in handling federal and multi-state gift, estate, and generation-skipping taxes and all income tax matters. He is skilled in conducting litigation matters including objections to accountings, construction proceedings and contested probates.

While Kevin represents major banks in complicated trust and fiduciary matters, he is also attentive to the needs of his individual clients. He counsels families in estate planning, long term asset protection, retirement planning, charitable giving, tax, Medicaid, guardianship and related elder law matters.

He is an assistant adjunct professor at New York University's Center for Finance, Law and Taxation where he teaches Federal Income Taxation of Trusts and Estates. Kevin is a frequent guest speaker on a wide array of trusts and estates and elder law topics, and has lectured at major financial institutions, senior living facilities and to students at St. John's Law School. He also participated as a panelist for the Basic Elder Law Practice continuing legal education seminar sponsored by the New York State Bar Association. Kevin has been selected to serve as an expert witness in intricate trusts and estates and tax litigation.

Kevin started his career as a tax consultant for a Big Six accounting firm. Thereafter, he joined the trusts and estates department of a major Wall Street law firm as an associate. Most recently, Kevin headed the trusts and estates department of a prominent Westchester law firm where he also concentrated in the practice of elder law.

Kevin received his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (J.D., 1995) and he graduated, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Albany (B.S., Business Administration, Concentration in Finance, 1992). He is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Shari L. Soloway, Associate

Shari is a graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (J.D., 1995). Her honors include a position as Notes Editor for the Cardozo Women's Law Journal. Shari received her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University (cum laude, B.A., History and American Studies, 1991). She is admitted to practice law in New York.

Shari is experienced in handling estate planning and administration. She drafts estate plans and all ancillary documents concerning advanced directives involving health care and financial decisions. She is acquainted with probate proceedings and guardianships.

Shari has represented individual, institutional and commercial clients in real estate matters. She is trained in drafting documents for real estate and corporate transactions involving institutional lenders and other commercial clients. She has conducted numerous real estate closings representing title companies, lenders, purchasers and sellers.

Shari also has a strong litigation background and has been responsible for litigation caseloads including drafting pleadings, motions and briefs, and negotiating settlements.

Prior to her association with the Law Offices of Kevin H. Cohen, Shari was an associate in private practices that focused on trusts and estates, real estate, commercial litigation and corporate law. As counsel for a leading title insurance company in Manhattan, she was involved in all aspects of title insurance for residential and commercial real estate transactions. Shari also served as an editorial and writing consultant for a premier legal publishing company where she assisted in the production of CD-ROM forms for use by trusts and estates and real estate practitioners.

Vincent Savino, Associate

Vincent Savino joined the Law Offices of Kevin H. Cohen, P.C., as a senior associate in October, 2005. Prior to joining our firm, Vincent concentrated in the practice of Elder Law, Trusts and Estates and Real Estate for a leading Westchester County law firm.

Vincent has vast experience representing individuals and families in all aspects of Elder Law and Trusts and Estates. He has a unique understanding of complex estate planning issues and represents a variety of clients from families with special needs to multi-million dollar estates.

Vincent is skilled in drafting detailed and comprehensive estate plans and all documents relating to the implementation of such planning. Vincent is also well versed in asset protection strategies with a view towards Medicaid planning and eligibility, long term health care and insurance planning, nursing home placement and admission and guardianship proceedings.

In addition to his experience in Elder Law and Trusts and Estates, Vincent has an extensive background in land use and zoning. He has represented corporate clients and federally licensed wireless telecommunication companies in connection with the siting of wireless telecommunication facilities.

Vincent graduated from St. John's University School of Law in 2000 (J.D. 2000). He also received his M.B.A. degree in Finance from Long Island University in 2000 and has an undergraduate degree from Iona College (B.S., History, 1990). Vincent is admitted to both the New York and Connecticut State Bars and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Vincent is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
